Visual Studio hangs after viewing Properties dialog

Every time I open the Properties dialog in VS 2008 when I have a Silverlight app open, VS stops responding when I leave the dialog. The only thing I can do is to terminate the Visual Studio process and start it all over again. I have had this problem since the SL 3 beta, but I thought it would disappear when I upgraded to the release version. It didn't although I uninstalled everything that had to do with SL before installing the release.

It does not behave like this with an ordinary Windows forms application or anything else.

So, everytime I need to change a single property in an SL environment, I have to save my change, leave the Properties dialog to let VS stop responding, forcably close VS and then restart VS.

Does anyone please know the reason or what the solution is?

I'm having this same issue with SL3 Release. Didn't have it in SL3 Beta. Just opening a XAML file while the Properties pane is visible causes it to render a black rectangle briefly, then crash VS (with the typical 'send a report to Microsoft' dialog, which I have done). Anyone seen a fix for this?

Good to hear I'm not alone.

And yes, it seems to occur when an xaml page is being parsed. Just having the Properties dialog open is enough, you can do anything as long as you don't click in an open xaml document, or, if none is open, open one.

Aye. I thought it might be something broken with the Properties pane, but even with it completely closed, it still crashes, so guessing that not rendering properly is just a side effect of whatever the crash is. EDIT: Oh, for anyone else running into this issue, the easiest workaround I've got at the moment is to use Right Click, Open With... XML Editor, for editing XAML files.

I had a similar problem my solution was:

I have solved it, the culprit was my display driver for ATI Radeon HD 2400 pro, after a complete unistall of everything ATI to VGA mode it worked and then after einstalling the ATI stuff it still worked. A tip is to look in the event log that tells the "faulting application" (I am on Vista Business).
