Sorry mate, those that know aren't talking, and if they tell you they will have to kill you(lol).
Seriously, there are two dates to keep in mind.
Olympics: August 8-24, 2008
DNC: August 25-28, 2008
They may have all the technology they need for the Olympics wich I assume isn't as data driven as the DNC, but I could be wrong. My thinking there is that they could live with Beta 2, but in my opinion, I really wouldn't want to do that unless RTM was 100%
compatible.
When is Silverlight 2 - final version expected to be released?
We are targeting late SummerHere is a rough timeline:
Silverlight 2.0 Beta 1 (Q1CY08 with limited (non commercial) Go-Live)
Silverlight 2.0 Beta 2 (Q2CY08 with Go-Live)
Silverlight 2.0 RTM (Summer 2008) – Exact timing TBD
That's just the old schedule. The author's put some note (in red) at the beginning of the document:
I’ve been alerted that some of the release information listed for Silverlight 2 needs to be updated. Silverlight 2 and RTW is slated for Fall.
That's really bad unless a CTP is released that is very close to what we'll see in RTM/RTW. Why?
Well, the "Internet" story for SL is that we will have seeded the world using the Olympics as the can't resist event. If the version used for the Olympics isn't compatible with RTM/RTW,
then we have the broken application situation all over again.
On the intranet, this shouldn't pose much of a problem, but if you plan on being able to
get business supplanting Flash/Flex apps, or any general website work, you're SOL my friend. There's no way any company wants users to have to go through that mess before they can do business.
We are ONLY moving administrative applications on the internet, where we have maximum control, and intranet applications to SL. We would like to compete with Flash/Flex, but the one big weakness they said SL had is actually true at this point... no distribution
of the runtime.
If SL is scheduled for this Fall, I can't imagine the disruption in our current apps.
If it was only bugs control, summer could have been possible.
Going into fall, my guess would be that there are going to be a lot of breaking changes again. Possibly worse than the change to Beta 2, since the distance between beta 2 and fall is much greater than the distance from beta 1 to beta 2.
It getting into the frustration now on catching up with SL and we are in the process of making web application by using SL presentation interface and it does not have even the drop down... we know that microsoft would introduce soon and that is why we are
not developing own. Why should we waste itemif Microsoft one, which would have more features, can be used.
Anyone from Microsoft can comment on this, please? When RTM would be available or I would say SL 2.0 (released)?
It is annoying now alot!!

Hi!
On the following page it's stated that RTM will not be released before fall.
