• Re: Re: Re: RIA Service Go Live

@Jean-Pierre The following clearly state that .NET RIA Services July 2009 Preview is a preview: The cover page of the overview doc (there is only one) The download page from where you get the binaries The splash screen when you install the preview The folder name in Start menu The title of the sticky announcement on this very ...
• Re: Plan for RIA Services drops at PDC 2009 / drops for VS 2010 Beta2

For RTW, our focus will be on .NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 (RTM versions). We are still evaluating if / how RIA Services can be supported on .NET 3.5 SP1. We are looking for more feedback to make a better tradeoff. On the one hand, we realize that many of you would like to continue to use .NET 3.5 SP1 for a while. On the other, many of you are ...
• Re: Plan for RIA Services drops at PDC 2009 / drops for VS 2010 Beta2

@Everett, You will have to pick one of the two - either RTM combo (VS 2008, .NET 3.5 SP1) or the beta2 combo and use the applicable drop. Mix and match while interesting are not supported to keep the matrix sane for us and for users. @IT_Lackey Along the same lines, you would need to use a VM to try both RIA Services drops on the same ...
• Plan for RIA Services drops at PDC 2009 / drops for VS 2010 Beta2

Now that Visual Studio 2010 / .NET 4 beta2 is out for MSDN subscribers, I got a few questions. This has probably been covered elsewhere but I am listing it here separately. Our goal is to provide you RIA Services drops at PDC that cover the following two combinations: 1. Beta: this will support VS 2008, .NET 3.5 SP1. Those who want to go live ...
• Re: Recap of our challenges

Theo,  Thanks for your feedback. One quick comment: Theo > You can't manipulate the entity state client side. Why not? Why wouldn't I be able to insert an entity in a domain context and mark it as unmodified?   Support for unmodified entity already exists in the form of Attach(). After modification, it will result in ...
• Re: Re: Cannot compose queries in VB.NET client side using July Preview

We have a bug related to the translation of VB-specific expression tree nodes. Unfortunately, this happens to be one of them. A workaround would be to use String.Equals() for now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks.
• .NET RIA Services July 2009 CTP Available

What is .NET RIA Services?Microsoft .NET RIA Services simplifies the traditional n-tier application pattern by bringing together the ASP.NET and Silverlight platforms. The RIA Services provides a pattern to write application logic that runs on the mid-tier and controls access to data for queries, changes and custom operations. It also provides ...
• Re: .NET RIA Services V1 CTPs: current thinking

Dinesh, is the PDC timeframe plan that ADO.Net Data Services completely replaces the existing communication method or that it becomes an option? I have been assuming that it replaces which makes it easier to explain to people just what RIA Services is. -Colin Blair The plan is to replace the current RIA Services protocol implementation ...
• Re: .NET RIA Services V1 CTPs: current thinking

@micmit We are planning some very early integration experiences with ADO.NET Data Services in July CTP - more to show the direction, get feedback and internally build the right code-base for planned migration in PDC timeframe. Since its implementation started relatively recently, it will be far less baked than the March/May RIA ...
• Re: .NET RIA Services V1 CTPs: current thinking

We'd like to see fewer new fancy features and an earlier release date with support for 3.5sp1 (although I understand those may be conflicting goals for you guys).
@Dinesh and Zmorris; This is an interesting thought; I was recently having a conversation with Colin, where ...
