Running the installer with the /x parameter and then running the msi that get extracted seems to be the easiest workaround. I haven't seen a reply in a few weeks, so I'm going to give up on trying to sort it out.

I looked at another post Silverlight Failed to install (1.0b or 1.1a) I noticed there was a switch to generate a log file (/l <log file>). I ran the 1.1a with the log and here are the results. Hopefully this might give you some clues.

The time on the computer is set by the domain controller. I checked it anyway, and it is correct. I am in the Central Time Zone (GMT -06:00). This is a desktop computer, so it never travels.

Is there an official solution? I am getting the file directly from Microsoft, so the work around seems pretty reasonable since it is comming from a trusted source.

I can 100% access http://www.microsoft.com Thats how I downloaded the installers. I go there often and to msdn. It has never been a problem in the past. It handles the genuine advantage stuff just fine.

Yes, I am connected to the network. I'm at a corporation, so there is a proxy for web traffic. I'm not sure about DNS. It seems to me that it doesn't resolve names outside of the perimeter. Of course, the proxy is using a different name server.
