No it cannot -- Silverlight cannot currently access local device resources without the user providing the access via Open File dialog boxes, etc.

mbr123 - why not just separate your commands to different web service methods? if you're going to have different event handlers anyway, it does not look like you are benefitting from trying to stuff them in one big "doCommand" method.

Not speaking for TimD -- but definitely look at their controls. One look at the demo app they have out there and it will be causing you to think twice if it is Silverlight -- some of the most impressive controls out there that his team has put together!

Flash doesn't really use that process anymore. Uninstall Flash completely from your machine and visit adobe.com/flash -- you'll see (http://timheuer.com/blog/archive/2007/12/04/flash-player-update-h-264-silverlight-install-experience.aspx).
