Joe Stegman mentions this in his CL20 "Extending the Sandbox" talk at about 59:23.
See http://microsoftpdc.com/Videos. They posted just the high-bit-rate video last night (huge), but it's not in the listing this morning. I imagine it will be back up in the next day or two, along with a smaller encoded ...

Adobe's open-source "Text Layout Framework" is indeed interesting. Something similar on SL would be good.

samcov,
>I can't understand HTML support only in OOB situations.
I'm not clear on the reason for that either. Hopefully Joe Stegman's "Extending the Sandbox" PDC session will explain more: http://microsoftpdc.com/Sessions/CL20
Joe's session was presented yesterday, and they appear to have the recorded video ...

ksleung,
>If the user already granted the trust, why can't the web app be trusted?
I think the main reason is security. They want to put another "speed bump" in there to prevent a busy user from getting phished into running a malicious SL app. If the user has to go that extra step of installing OOB before they can ...

Stefan,
I'm still overall impressed with SL4, but as I read more about some of the features, the warts start surfacing. For example, the "Hosting HTML Content" feature is a great idea, but... Apparently it currently only works if your app has been installed OOB. That is, it will NOT work with a regular SL4 app running in ...

Addendum:
In Scott Guthrie's PDC 2009 keynote today he announced there was going to be some kind of profiling API included with SL4! Cool!
Apparently it will be covered in Seema Ramchandani's "Perf" presentation at PDC 2009 on Thursday Nov. 19, 2009: http://microsoftpdc.com/Sessions/P09-10. I expect the video ...

Sam,
In WPF's favor, MS thinks enough of it to use it in implementing VS 2010 and Blend.
I notice that at least of a bit of the "dynamic stuff" will apparently be available in SL4. Tim Heuer's "COM interop" SL4 snippet uses the "dynamic" keyword of C# 4.0: http://timheuer.com/blog/#com
BTW: That ...

Hi samcov,
Well, obviously there are things SL4 can't do, that a WPF app can. (For example, every once in a while I need to access files that don't just live in the "My" folders ;). For security, I can see how some of those things may always be reserved for desktop apps. But it seems we've reached a ...

Scott Guthrie said the SL4 timeline will be:
1) This SL4 beta (Released today Nov. 18, 2009)
2) A release candidate (When? Will there be a "go live" here?)
3) Final release of SL4 (Scott says in the "first half of 2010")
So if you have to ship something real in February it looks like SL3.

This looks interesting.
Today (Nov. 18, 2009) during PDC 2009 Microsoft released the "Silverlight Media Framework" (SMF) on CodePlex. This was apparently developed by Vertigo.
