I realize this is an old thread but we're trying to track down the root cause of the reasons for the 1635 error. If you are trying to install Silverlight and it is failing with error 1635, please contact me (click my name then click the link to send me an email - you have to be logged in to do this FYI) and send me your email.

I am still having the same issue when trying to install silverlight. I even keep getting the windows automatic update to install silverlight but it never installs and I keep getting this error.

Error 1635

You reached this page since you encountered problems with the installation of Microsoft Silverlight. In many cases these problems are due to incompatible browser and operating system or due to an old pre-release version of Silverlight. Please follow the Uninstall Instructions to remove any previous versions from your system and then visit the Silverlight Web site and install the latest version.

Anyone have suggestions or step by step instructions on how to reolve this issue?

I have been trying to install the latest version of silverlight. It keeps giving me error code 1635, I have tried to uninstall but when i do that it tells me it cant find it. I deleted everything manually and tried reinstalling but get the same error. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get this installed?

Hallo,

when installing KB951213 over WSUS or over the silverlight-website I got an Installation error. The problem seems to be that the temp folder is not so good chosen because it is on a drive witch is a substitude (subst), but the MSI-Installer is not able to find this as service-process.

I opened the real directory and ran the install.exe from Installer the Update was OK.

I think the Setup.exe should only use physical drives!
