In-place Install vs Regular Install

I have a question. Why is everyone using the slow "nah I can't be bothered going to a different website, downloading and running an install package, i'll just look at another website" install method instead of the "wow, I clicked the button, a box popped up and then suddenly the website worked" in-place install method?

Don't we want fast mass adoption here? Shouldn't we be making propogation of this technology as easy and painless as humanly possible?

To sum up:
1. Normal install: inconvenient, likely to hinder proliferation of silverlight installation.
2. In-place Install: convenient and fast enough to not be considered a valid obstacle to end users.

Please explain what I'm missing here?
