How to make people install plugin silverlight

Hello everybody

i am from Ukraine

I use silverlight in my projects, and customers were happy from what they saw in demo of their new web sites.

BUT

we met the problem, people are afraid to install silverlight plugin, they are worry about it is somekind of virus or any other soft that can hack or broken their system and computer.

People does not know what it is. If at least there is some page in russian or ukrianian so i can leave link to it and people can read to ensure it is ful security and amazing, but for now silverlight information pages just in English.

 I think it is time to translate it.

may be will be better to suggest installation of silverlight as update for windows or internet explorer.

Could any body help me wiht it?

Have you tried looking at Microsoft Ukraine or Microsoft Russia pages for any official info about Silverlight? They must have something over there...

Yes, sure I did.

 Microsoft Ukraine has nothing at all. Like silverlight has never exist anywhere.

Microsoft Russia is not the site that will have matter here, it is the site of other country, and if use it, they have some information about silverlight in russian, but there is eaither a piece of russuain text with terminologies that is not understandable for just people who uses internet, and the rest is english too, or full technical information about what is it and how to create your first application.

There is nothing just for people, for young people who are the most uses internet here, no articles written in understandable language. Similar to what you can read in silverlight.net

So maybe you can find some contact to the Developer and Platform Evangelism (DPE) group on the Microsoft Ukraine page and ask them to publish some information on the website.

The other solution would be if you would create a website with all the information, but then people may still think it is somethink bad.

On the other hand the installer is digitally signed and afair it appears to the user that it comes from Microsoft.

Thank you very much for advice, but such group does not exist in Ukraine.

I will try to send e-mail to Microsoft in Ukraine, but even in their contact page http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support in Ukraine notified to contact in English.

I really think it is time to sugget silverlight as update to system.

 I am sure I am not the only who met this problem in real commerce use of silverlight, and mostly it is the main reason why it is not the same popular as Flash or even JavaScript and AJAX

I agree it is a problem. However people download the flash player - how is this any different?

I liked the Microsoft prompt to encourage download which was something like:

Install trusted software from Microsoft for a rich internet experience

Problem would be solved by including it as part of OS updates but then Microsoft might be accused of creating a monopoly...

Until Silverlight gains widespread acceptance like flash has then I guess this will be a blocker on the update of the technology. Microsoft will have to invest in a lot of awareness building if Silverlight is to suceed.

Flash is old, I even will use the word "ANCIENT". Everybody knows it, children pplay muchin flash games.

Yes, i agree the software from Microsoft is trusted, but the problem even deeper, there is no information about silverlight in Ukraine, I mean in Microsoft Ukraine site, and after my notes, that sites require is plugin, people are going to Microsoft Ukraine and try to find something, as there no info, i mena really no info, you could do notknow ukrainian but you will find serach and try to type there SILVERLIGHT, and you will get page with 0 results, "0", i think also will not require any translation. And as result no one here isntall it, and think it is some kind of trick.

I asked at least small article in ukrainian language in microsoft ukrianian portal, general information for non-tech people. It is 20 minutes maximum to translate and public.

I tried to reach ukrainian support, but as i found it does not exist at all, i contact international, and they told me got o ukrainian support team, but how i can contact them if they are not exist????

revealed some pages such as http://www.microsoft.com/Ukraine/News/Issues/2007/04/silverlight.mspx. Hope it’s useful.

in new publication area?

Something really general, like what is it and what it will give you and why you should download it and feel the difference.
