Hello, are there any plans for Microsoft to port Silverlight to the Linux platform? I have Linux on my other hard drive, and it would be really great to have Silverlight on Linux.

I can't see why they not should support Linux distros, when they say that "Microsoft® Silverlight™ is a cross-browser, cross-platform".

The last answer I heard on this was "if there is demand we will build it". Or something like that. So I'm assuming if Silverlight is successfull (which is seems to be so far) then it will be extended to other platforms.

Microsoft must begin to create a version for Linux, because Adobe already has a linux player.

Don't forget about FreeBSD! We're always being overlooked. But at the least, a Linux player would be nice. At least we could run it as a second-class app on FreeBSD using linux binary compatibility.
Adobe is porting Flash Player 9 to Solaris now too, FWIW.

+1 on the Linux support. I have a large number of users that run Linux and I really couldn't afford to ignore them.

There do indeed seem to be plans to port it to Linux. Miguel de Icaza, the head of Mono, has already announced plans to do so:

As cool as silverlight is, I need a open sourced version so I can plug Silverlight support into my projects. I simply can't use closed web technology without alienating too many clients.

Looks like .NET (and its nodes) implementation on linux is left to Mono Team.
Silverlight implementation on Linux is also executed under mono, which is called "Moonlight"you can find it at http://www.mono-project.com/MoonlightI feel its a clever move by Microsoft.
