I get the same error trying to install the silverlight aplha refresh or the release candidate. I can uinstall the original alpha release and install it. The more information just gives you the system recommendations page which lists the different operating systems and browsers acceptable which is most. I have windows XP SP2 which the list says is OK, but the refresh won't install. It gets 80% done and says your operating system/browser is not acceptable for update. Or something like that.
The alpha release worked with Orcas beta 1. I'm trying to get silverlight working with ORACAS beta 2.

I have tried it with Alpha 1.1 refresh(http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/downloads.aspx#2_0) under XP SP2 TUR. and it is installed successful.
So, can you give more information to me, such as which previous version did you install.
I'd like to repro it. send email to v-yequnj@microsoft.com.
thx.

If you are getting error code 1503, that should mean that your processor doesn't support MMX or SSE instructions. It's likely you are running early model Athlon (pre-XP series).

I have an AMD Athlon 1.3G (Thunderbird) It supports MMX and 3DNow Please see what cpuZ reports, seems to match the system requirements. What is the deal?

The Thunderbird doesn't support SSE instructions which is required by Silverlight.

Yes but then tell me why the older Duron supports it? Duron is even older still.
