Why did Microsoft choose Adobe Flash 10 for their new " I'm A PC " Background for MSN.com ?

Wasn't Silverlight 2.0 capable of doing the job? Is Adobe Flash 10 a better choice? Was it too difficult to deal with? Was asking the MSN users to load the Silverlight Plugin unreasonable? Is Microsoft surrendering the market to Adobe Flash?

If you go the the sub pages by clicking on the windows section, the site you go to http://imapc.lifewithoutwalls.com/ uses Silverlight.

But the important questions are, if MSN is one of Microsoft's most visible faces to the Worrld, why did they choose Adobe Flash 10 for that purpose? In what ways did Silverlight 2.0 not "fit the need" for that application ?

And more importantly, why should I not follow Microsoft's own lead and terminate my new application developments using Silverlight 2.0 and convert them to Adobe Flash 10 instead?

 Because its still in beta?

It isn't supported on Linux yet.  Why would Microsoft keep people from seeing "one of their most visible faces to the world".

You can complain when it comes out of beta.

Agreed, this is one place where I think the absolutely right choice was to use Flash, if someone is interested in learning more, then they can install Silverlight, it's more of an "opt in" scenario. Advertising is all about the eyeballs, and the indisputable truth right now is that Flash is installed on more computers than Silverlight. Now I would hope that in a few months, it's less of an issue and if the install base for Silverlight is good enough at that point, I would completely expect them to use their own technology.

But if you're just looking for any reason you can to use Flash instead, go ahead.
