Choice between Silverlight & Adobe Flex

Hi all,

i need to decide the choice between Silverlight & Adobe Flex. my need is that my application (which would be desktop as well Web based) need to run both on Wndows and Mac. Is it possible to achive this cross platform ability through Silverlight? If yes, how could i go about the development? Please give some ideas, some useful links to required documentation, sample projects, etc.

Hi.

i will suggest to use Silverlight.

It is Really Cool.If you are having Programming Experience of .net then it will be even easy for you to develop applications...

It runs on Windows and mac both..

You Can check for Oss supported By Silverlight Here.

http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/resources/install.aspx#sysreq

You Can check this Site(Silverlight.Net) for many useful information.

You Can go through Learn section of this where there are so many tutorials.

Apart from that You can go through  these links also..

Which language shall i select to achieve this cross platform ability - should it necessrily be javascript?

No.

You can write in Your Languages Like C# ,Vb e as well as Other Language like Ruby etc(I am not much aware of this one but you can check DLR Support).

Actually client will be having a Plugin (Silverlight Plugin) in his machine so no need to develop that in Javscript only..

Thanks,

Re: Choice between Silverlight & Adobe Flex

At this time only Adobe Flex in combination with Adobe AIR will let you develop portable web and desktop applications. If desktop version of your application is a hard requirement then Flex is the only viable choice. Flex is also more mature application/platform, altho AIR is quite new. Silverlight got its own advantages, but based on the requirements you provided it is not the right choice.
