live radio streaming

I am helping someone with revamping a website for a radio station that does live streaming... no one can figure out how exactly it was originally set up and the flash version and media codecs that its currently using are so outdated that pretty much you have to use IE on a windows machine in order to get the current stream. so we are going to scrap the whole thing and start over on the streaming. Problem is, neither of us have ever done it nor do we know anyone thats ever done it...

the domain is hosted on a shared server so a dedicated server setup is not possible. Im having problems finding information on if silverlight will work in the given situation.. it looks like it will? but i cant really find the answers i need on how to set up that kind of situation or if it will even work.

any advise will be helpful
