Error 1605

I get this error when trying to install Silverlight.

Message ID: 1605

Error

You reached this page since you encountered problems with the installation of Microsoft Silverlight. In many case these problems are due to incompatible browser and operating system or due to an old pre-release version of Silverlight. Please follow the Uninstall Instructions to remove any previous versions from your system and then Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/Silverlight and install the latest version.

This happens at the very beginning of the install. As far as I know Silverlight is not on my computer and all of my browsers are up to date.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Re: Error 1605

I tried this before but just in case I tried it again. I get the same 1605 error.

I have tried to install using IE and Firefox. Neither worked.

I have Windows XP and an Intel Pentium 4 CPU (3.4 GHz).

Re: Re: Error 1605

Hello,

Please download the installer directly from this link. http://silverlight.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/6/6/3/663404e9-990d-4b74-873c-c4611aea2133/Silverlight.2.0.exe

Close all browsers and install SL 2. Let me know whether you can successfully install it or not. then, re-open the browser and check the SL 2 web page.

There should be a SilverlightMSI.log file in your %temp% directory, can you host that somewhere?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Error 1605

Based on this link

ERROR_UNKNOWN_PRODUCT 1605 This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.
ERROR_INSTALL_PACKAGE_ REJECTED 1625 This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator.

I have a few suggestions for you.

#1) Please disable or shutdown all anti-virus or protection (registry protector or file protector)  software before installing Silverlight.

#2) If your machine is under domain, you should probably contact with domain administrator.

#3) You may create one new administrator account in my machine and try to install Silverlight.
